Azure App Service plan and App Service
The Embedsy Portal runs as a web app on Azure App Service in your own Azure subscription. The installation creates two resources for it:
- App Service - the web app itself, the Embedsy Portal. Its default address is https://<app-name>.azurewebsites.net, unless you add a custom domain.
- App Service plan - the compute the web app runs on (CPU and memory). The plan sets the cost: you pay for the plan, not for the app. The installation creates a Linux plan in the Basic B1 tier.
Nothing needs to be done with these resources day to day. To keep an eye on what they cost, set up an Azure budget.
If the portal becomes slow
Slow reports are usually caused by the capacity, not the App Service: check capacity monitoring first. If the portal itself (menus, pages, settings) is slow, scaling the App Service plan up to a larger tier can help. You do this in the Azure portal under Scale up (App Service plan), and it raises the monthly cost. Contact us before you change the plan.
Don't move the plan to the Free or Shared tier. Those tiers don't support Always On, which the installation turns on. Without it, Azure can unload the app when it gets no requests for a while, and the portal's background jobs, such as pausing the capacity and sending scheduled reports, stop with it.
