Azure Storage Account

The installation creates an Azure Storage account in your Azure subscription. The portal keeps the files you upload in it, in Blob storage:

  • Branding files: logos, favicons, loading spinners, landing page images and Power BI theme (JSON) files.
  • PDFs added as pages, and sample files for Studio apps.
  • Files in Documents. These sit in a separate, private container and can only be opened through the portal.

The first time Documents is used, the portal turns on soft delete for the account's blobs if it is off. From then on, a deleted file can be restored in the Azure portal for 7 days.

Leave the storage account's access settings as they are. Branding images are loaded straight from the storage account, so turning off anonymous blob access, or deleting or renaming a container, makes logos and images disappear from the portal.

Pricing

You pay for the data stored and for the read and write operations. For a portal that holds branding files and some documents, that is usually a small amount. The account is a general-purpose v2 account with read-access geo-redundant storage (RA-GRS), and new files go to the Hot access tier, which suits files that are read often.

To keep an eye on your Azure costs, set up an Azure budget. For prices, see Azure Blob Storage pricing.
